LAKE LANIER
Lake Lanier spreads across roughly 39,000 acres in the foothills of the Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains, with more than 690 miles of shoreline and over 100 islands scattered across the lake. Largemouth bass are an important prize for bass anglers, while Alabama bass and striped bass are defining parts of the modern Lanier fishery. Black crappie and walleye add even more variety. Lanier can shift from creek arms and rocky points to standing timber, submerged humps and deep open water, giving anglers a huge range of ways to fish it. The recreation side is just as impressive: the Corps operates extensive parks and campgrounds, while dozens of ramps and multiple marinas make boating a major part of the lake’s identity. With aqua-blue water, islands to explore and Atlanta within easy reach, Lanier works equally well as a serious fishing destination or an entire weekend built around the water.
