Lake Murray Trophy Room

White Catfish — 12 lb 2.9 oz

Charles Earp landed the white catfish during an overnight Lake Murray trip. The fish was certified as South Carolina's new state record and remains listed in the current SCDNR freshwater record book.

• The fish struck at about 3 a.m. while Earp was fishing off Spence's Point in roughly 6 to 8 feet of water.
• The presentation was a treble-hooked sponge coated with Sonny's catfish dip bait.
• The fish was weighed on registered digital scales at Old Timey Meat Market and its identity was confirmed by SCDNR fisheries staff.
• The catch surpassed the previous Lake Murray white catfish state record of 9 lb 15 oz from 1986.
